By Adam Kopet of DyeStat

It was a HOKA ONE ONE Northern Arizona Elite sweep at the Gasparilla Half Marathon Sunday in Tampa, Fla. Scott Fauble and Aliphine Tuliamuk won the men’s and women’s races as both prepare for spring marathons.

RESULTS

Fauble dueled with defending champion Elkanah Kibet until the final 400 meters when Fauble kicked away to win by four seconds, running 1:05:09. Augustus Maiyo and Parker Stinson finished third and fourth in 1:05:22 and 1:06:29, respectively.

Both Fauble and Kibet are scheduled to race the Boston Marathon in April.

Tuliamuk went unchallenged in the latter stages of the race as she crossed the finish line in 1:12:29. Becky Wade finished second in 1:14:26.

Tuliamuk’s next race is scheduled to be the Rotterdam Marathon. Wade is set to join Fauble and Kibet in Boston.

Safi Half Marathon

The men’s and women’s course records fell at the Safi Half Marathon on the Moroccan coast.

RESULTS

Racing his second half marathon in a week, Bernard Kipkorir Ngeno of Kenya broke the tape in 1:01:06, 27 seconds ahead of second place Gizachew Hailu Negasa of Ethiopia.

Ngeno made his winning move after 15 kilometers, going unchallenged in the final stages of the race.

Ngeno holds a personal best of 59:22 from 2018 and won the Bomet Half Marathon in Kenya last weekend. He broke the Safi course record by nearly two minutes.

Failuna Abdi Matanga of Tanzania won the women’s race in 1:10:50, breaking the course record by two minutes. She used a strong final three kilometers to outpace the Ethiopian duo of Asnakesh Awoke Mengesha and Hiwot Ayalew who finished second and third in 1:10:57 and 1:11:01, respectively.

Ayalew is a former world class steeplechaser who has made the transition to the roads after injury made the steeplechase difficult to compete in without pain.

Guadalajara Half Marathon

The Guadalajara Half Marathon, an IAAF Gold Label race, saw Mathew Kisorio of Kenya win the men’s race in 1:01:47, earning a 55-second victory.

RESULTS

Afera Godfay Berha of Ethiopia won the women’s race by an even larger margin. She crossed the finish line in 1:08:52.
